About Our Ranch

The History of WestWynd

Westwynd Ranch is a sprawling 113-acre active horse ranch, vineyard, and event and lodging facility located just east of Ramona, CA. You’ll find us on the way to the historic town of Julian along the scenic Old Julian Highway lined with other ranches, vineyards, and wineries. In recent decades, the ranch was active raising chickens, turkeys, and most recently, cattle.

In 2018, Mike and Donna, as husband and wife, purchased the ranch with the intention of converting it to its present use, spending the first four years removing barbed wire fences and renovating the several existing houses for lodging as Airbnb rentals.

In December of 2022, they first advertised event services through wedding websites and rapidly began gaining additional notice through word-of-mouth.

In January of 2024, Mike retired from corporate life to fully devote time to the ranch as inquiries and bookings continued to increase.

Today, Mike and Donna continue in their marriage and business partnership with Donna managing design decisions and customer relations while Mike manages ranch operations. We look forward to hosting your significant event in the near future!

Ranch House

Originally built in 1996 and fully renovated, the Ranch House offers 3,300 square feet of rustic charm blended with modern comforts. It features two spacious 800-square-foot common areas, perfect for gathering and relaxing. The house includes two lodging rooms furnished with luxurious queen-size bunk beds, providing a comfortable and unique stay. For bridal parties, there is a ready-room complete with a queen Murphy bed and an elegant 8’ x 8’ mirror, salvaged from the historic Ulysses S. Grant Hotel in downtown San Diego.

Outdoor spaces include a 2,300-square-foot paver patio in the front, an 800-square-foot decomposed granite patio adjacent to the house, and an 800-square-foot semi-covered patio on the side. A sprawling 2,400-square-foot grass yard extends in front of the lake, offering a picturesque view. Guests can also enjoy the 500-square-foot dock overlooking the serene lake and its wildlife-rich island. The Ranch House boasts charming porches on both the front and back, perfect for lounging. A large gas firepit adds warmth and ambiance. The house is fully ADA-accessible, featuring a wheelchair lift and a bathroom designed for accessibility.

Guest House

Once a 1960s bunkhouse, the Guesthouse has been completely transformed into a spacious and inviting 2,000-square-foot retreat. It includes a 600-square-foot common area and four large bed-and-bath suites, providing ample space and privacy. Behind the house, a separate 1,200-square-foot patio offers a peaceful spot for outdoor relaxation.

Nearby, guests can enjoy a cozy gas firepit next to the expansive goat pen, home to WestWynd’s beloved Nigerian dwarf goats: Sunny, Stormy, Kit Kat, and Stella. These playful goats are a guest favorite, adding charm and entertainment to the ranch experience.

Guesthouse Casitas

Adjacent to the Guesthouse, two private 300-square-foot casitas offer additional accommodations. Each casita features an individual bath, creating a comfortable and self-contained space for guests. The casitas are connected by a 600-square-foot breezeway, ideal for intimate conversations and relaxed gatherings.

WestWynd Vineyard

Spanning 1.5 acres, the WestWynd Vineyard is home to Sangiovese grapes planted in 2019. The first harvest took place in 2022, and local Ramona wineries now produce and sell wine from the vineyard’s grapes. At the heart of the vineyard is a charming 600-square-foot cutout, strung with romantic string lights and provisioned for shade sails, making it the perfect setting for intimate dinners or special events. For more information about the wines produced from WestWynd grapes, please contact us.

Haybarn

The expansive 2,900-square-foot Haybarn offers a rustic yet elegant event space, complete with a 14-foot rafter ceiling adorned with string lights and a stunning chandelier at its center. One side of the barn features floor-to-ceiling white curtains, adding a touch of elegance, while the other side is lined with sprawling Star Jasmine vines, creating a naturally beautiful backdrop.

Stables

The ranch’s stables provide excellent facilities for horse enthusiasts. They include:

  • Individual 24′ x 24′ corrals with shade coverings
  • Several larger corrals
  • Two separate Mare Motels, one with 4 corrals and the other with 8
  • Large fenced horse pastures
  • Both large and small show arenas
  • A circular round pen training arena
  • 113 acres of scenic riding terrain with three separate groomed trails, each approximately ¼ to ⅓ mile long

Lake

The ranch’s picturesque 1.5-acre lake features a 5,000-square-foot island in the center, serving as a bird sanctuary accessible only by boat. The island is equipped with fresh water, electricity, and a 10′ x 10′ concrete pad, perfect for hosting exclusive private dinners or special events.
